Creating Messages

Writing and creating messages:

There are important people in your life – children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbours, friends – people who you want to tell that you are working to reduce the climate crisis. What do you want to tell them about what you are doing today to help the planet?

Write, photograph or record that message! We will share your message now on the internet and preserve your message for the future.

Not sure where to start?

This is a blueprint of what you might include in your message.  Please use it or write without this background…whatever suits your plans for the coming generations.

This will help you start the writing process. We encourage all kinds of positive messages about what you are doing.

What is possible for you to do? – and what you may be already doing:  The Inspiration section has a list of small but meaningful actions we all can do. It includes voting for concerned politicians.  One great message, for instance, asks us not to argue over different paths (carbon reduction, recycling, plastic waste, etc.) but to realize we needed systemic changes in all aspects of our life.

If you need more ideas, check out recommended climate actions on our inspiration page or read featured letters on our home page.

The Getting Started Blueprint:

1. Recipient:
who are you writing or addressing your message to (and why?)

2. Share with your child, grandchild or other loved one something special about you or them…
Do you share a special place, or a place you want the recipient to treasure too?
What you love about the recipient.

3. Include your thoughts about climate change and the future….
Perhaps how It could influence their lives in the future
Include individual actions as well as political and systems change if possible

4.  Ensure they know what you hope for them….
Why hope is essential for meaningful change

5.  Give them your promise…
What you are doing or will be doing for their future…
